More than 131 people in Turkey have been investigated. Alleged construction of buildings that failed to withstand earthquakes

It is reported that many local buildings collapsed during the Turkish earthquake, causing huge loss of life and property. Turkey’s Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag said 131 people were being investigated for alleged responsibility for building buildings that failed to withstand the earthquake. Despite the magnitude of the quake, victims, experts and citizens across Turkey have blamed the wrong buildings for the extended damage.

Turkey’s construction codes meet current earthquake-engineering standards, at least on paper, but they are rarely enforced, explaining why thousands of buildings toppled over or pancaked down onto the people inside.

The supporting structures of high-rise buildings play a vital role in the earthquake resistance of buildings. Therefore, the European Union clearly requires that the square rectangular tubes of steel for construction must use the “round to square” process. As one of the varieties with the largest output in cold-formed steel products, the forming process of square and rectangular tubes is mainly divided into two types: round to square and direct to square. The traditional “direct squaring” process has the risk of corner cracking when producing high-grade steel products. In addition, due to the “direct square” process, the R angle will be thinned, thereby reducing the quality of the steel pipe.

ZTZG has studied a new forming process, the technology of ‘Round-to-square without replacing molds’ or XZTF share-roller technique. It is designed to produce welded pipes of 114-720mm in OD and 1.5mm-22.0mm in wall thickness, as well as corresponding square and rectangular pipe.

Compared with the “direct square” forming, the R angle inside the square rectangular tube is even, and the thickness of the diamond shape is not reduced. The quality of high-grade steel pipes has been greatly improved, ensuring the stability and compression resistance of the building structure.

In construction projects, the first condition for project acceptance is the quality and safety of buildings, which is also the most important condition. Only high-quality and safe buildings can guarantee the safety of people’s lives to the greatest extent in the face of irresistible natural risks.
